What is the Annual Fund?
It is an investment you can make in the lives of Concordia University Wisconsin students!
Currently at CUW, we have more than 5,900 men and women from across the United States and nearly 30 foreign countries pursing their degree. The annual fund provides much needed dollars for wide-ranging initiatives such as student scholarships, maintaining our low student/faculty ratio, innovative academic endeavors, state-of-the-art computer/laboratory equipment, and directly supporting departmental operational costs. www.cuw.edu/giving_cuw.html

- Someone did it for you. Alumni - when you attended Concordia, you benefited from alumni generosity and support which helped to keep the cost of tuition down and fund new equipment. Today's students rely on alumni like you to do the same for them.
- Every little bit helps. Foundations and corporations often look at the number of donors a University has when choosing what level they wish to support the University. Strong donor participation sends a powerful message of loyalty. Your gift has the potential to influence others to give!
What do annual fund gifts support?
Sharing your blessings with CUW help to ensure our students continue to be equipped with the capabilities and commitment required for responsible participation in our increasingly complex and diverse world. Annual fund gifts are an important source of operational revenue which is used in the year they are given. Your gift immediately impacts the lives of our students and faculty.
How many CUW students receive scholarships?
Currently, 99% of CUW students receive financial support. Gifts to the Annual Fund Program are a vital source of support for this generous scholarship program.
When will I be solicited?
The various appeals and campaigns of CUW's annual fund operate on a fiscal year which begins July 1 and runs through June 30. Once a donor has made a contribution to the area in which he or she desires to support, there should be no more solicitations again during the remainder of the fiscal year.
Each year, the Advancement Office puts together an annual activity calendar which contains a variety of solicitation efforts, including an appeal letter and a year long phone-a-thon. We will contact thousands of alumni, parents, corporations, and friends throughout the year beginning in fall and ending in June. Each campaign includes only those donors who have not responded to an earlier appeal.
If you were contacted through our phone-a-thon and made a pledge, a letter is sent out that evening confirming your commitment made over the phone. Until the pledge is fulfilled, the donor will continue to receive friendly reminders. Please remember, your gift makes an impact during the current school year.
Who actually makes the phone calls to prospective or current donors?
The phone-a-thon team is made up of students who have a heart of servitude. Their job is to contact alumni and parents to make sure we have current information, update them on any CUW events and identify those who wish to make a gift to the University. Detailed training is provided to student callers before they ever make that first phone call, providing them with the skills and confidence to conduct business calls with prospective donors in a professional, respectful manner.
How may I direct my gift?
With each direct mail appeal you receive or at the time of the phone call, you may designate the area(s) you would like to support with your gift. Those designated areas include:
Greatest Need School of Education
General Scholarship School of Business and Legal Studies
Churchworker Scholarship School of Arts and Sciences
Graduate Studies School of Adult and Continuing Education
School of Human Services
How will my gift be used?
As the donor, you have the control as to what area of interest you would like to support. The majority of gifts CUW receives are restricted gifts, meaning the donor has chosen a specific designation in which their gift will provide assistance. A smaller percentage of gifts that come through our door are unrestricted gifts. These gifts are used at the discretion of the University, providing funds that can easily be directed to where they are needed most.
How can my gift be maximized for Concordia?
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match $1 for every $2 donated by members to CUW!
* Members can donate to any eligible and enrolled organization they choose, however
Thrivent Financial will only provide supplemental dollars to two organizations per year
* Thrivent Financial will supplement $1 for every $2 donated by members up to a $300
maximum to each organization
* Members can make multiple donations to the same organization in a given year and haveb the supplemental dollars provided when the paperwork is received and processed, however the donations will only be supplemented up to the $300 maximum
* To maximize your gift using Thrivent, fill out a Thrivent Matching Gift Form and return it to the university.
Many companies also match gifts. Please check with your employerto see if they offer a gift-matching program. You may also visit matchinggift.com to see if your company publicizes a gift matching program.

If you have received a direct mail appeal or you have pledge to our phone-a-thon, please use the self-addressed, postage paid envelope to send in your gift.

Last year the number of gifts to Concordia's Annual Fund increased by 29%, the number of donors increased by 26%, and the overall amount of gifts increased by 15%.
