Dr. David Borst Named as Dean of Business and Legal Studies

Appointment comes as school witnesses major growth

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin officials recently named Dr. David Borst the new Dean of the School of Business and Legal Studies at the University. He is replacing Dr. William Ellis who is retiring.

Borst had been serving as the executive director of the Office of International Students Services since 2000, which enrolls over 300+ international students and as the director of Graduate Business Programs since 1997, where under his guidance, Concordia’s MBA program grew from 84 to 650 students.

Under Borst’s leadership, seven new emphasis areas in the MBA program have also been created and an Advisory Council to the MBA program has been established to maintain current and quality curriculum.

The appointment of Borst as Dean to the School of Business and Legal Studies comes at a critical time for the University, as it has also witnessed tremendous undergraduate growth in the past five years in its School of Business.  In the fall of 2003, Concordia had just 296 undergraduates enrolled in 30 classes.  This past fall, that enrollment grew to 957 undergraduate students in 39 classes, an increase of 323 percent.

During this same time, the University added two noteworthy undergraduate programs; an Actuarial Program; and the Business Scholars Program, a rigorous program which allows students to earn an undergraduate business degree at the same time they pursue their MBA so they can complete an undergraduate and graduate degree in four years.

In April of 2005, the University also received international accreditation for its Business Programs (graduate and undergraduate) through the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

According to Borst, “This is a very exciting time to be named Dean. I plan to work closely with Concordia officials to steadily grow the School of Business and Legal Studies while maintaining our strong commitment to excellence in Christian business and legal studies education.

“I am also hoping to greatly increase our e-Learning opportunities for undergrads as well as working closely with our Nursing, Pharmacy, Athletic Training and Education programs to incorporate into each of these areas of education a necessary and vital business component.”

Borst adds that there is also talk of creating a Sports Management program, reinvigorating Concordia’s actuarial program and adding several other areas of emphasis which will focus more on the Legal Studies side of the school.

Borst holds a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Argosy University in Sarasota, FL; and a Master of Business Administration from Marquette University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing, also from Marquette.

He has received numerous awards including Concordia’s 2007 Graduate Business Faculty Person of the Year presented for teaching excellence; and a 2006 AIM Award, presented in recognition and service to the African international community.

He serves as the secretary/parliamentarian for the Ozaukee County Economic Development Corporation.

He and his family reside in Wauwatosa.
