CONCORDIA'S WOMENS'S BASKETBALL TEAM RECOGNIZED FOR HAVING THE HIGHEST CUMULATIVE GPA IN NCASS DIVISION III Concordia University Wisconsin’s women’s basketball team was recently recognized by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for having the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA) of any NCAA Division III school.
Coach Stacey Brunner said the team was very excited to be recognized for their combined 3.637 GPA. “This is proof that our women know how to work hard both on and off of the court,” she said. “They are truly a great group of women, and it is a pleasure to coach each and every one of them.”
The Falcons claimed back-to-back Northern Athletic Conference regular season titles with a 2007-08 record of 20-7.
Team members include: Angie Davis, a senior from West Allis, Wis; Asia Beckum, a sophomore from Milwaukee, Wis.; Meghan Matthies, a sophomore from Lake Mills, Wis.; Krista Mayyou, a junior from Prospect Heights, IL; Megan Sopkowicz, a junior from West Bend, Wis.; Christina Wingfield, a senior from Greendale, Wis.; Bethany Nier, a freshman from Green Bay, Wis.; Erin Meier a junior from Milwaukee, Wis.; Mel Kulibert, a freshman from Neenah, Wis.; Rachael Kleba, a freshman from Hartland, Wis., Kati Wewel, a sophomore from Jackson, Wis.; Pearl Wallace a sophomore from Viola, Wis.; and Jenna Ferron, a junior from Algoma, Wis.
Other honors for the team included Brunner being named Northern Athletics Conference Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season and NAC All-Conference Awards Krista Mayyou being named to the 1st Team; Angie Davis being named to the 2nd Team; Pearl Wallace, receiving a honorable mention and Mel Kulibert being named to the All-Rookie Team.
